Speech policy:

By inviting me to speak about book banning or censorship, you are agreeing to allow me to discuss and accurately represent the issue and my experiences. As an advocate for the freedom to read and against book banning and an educator, I will always use appropriate wording for the age groups attending. Please do not ask me to limit my speech or to avoid mentioning “controversial” topics or specific aspects of the ideological basis for censorship. I know how it feels to erase certain groups of people, and I will not accept dehumanization of groups of people by not having the freedom to discuss real life censorship. If you’d like to discuss further or have specific questions regarding this, please get in touch when inquiring about author visits. If I am asked to censor myself right before the start of the event or the day before, I have the right to step aside from the event and receive half of the agreed payment.

TESTIMONIALS

  • Connecting the word “author” that we use everyday to an actual person was the best learning moment for my Kindergarten students all year. We all truly enjoyed learning more about Eid and ka’ak, and the special role both play in Muslim family life! The kids have not stopped talking about it, especially my Muslim students who now feel seen! We will do this every year!
